We feel the vibration of world beat and Latin sounds permeate in the Echo Park venue by skilled Resident DJs every month and live acts at midnight. When the alternative salsa night began five years ago with DJs Dusk, Sloe Poke and Loslito, ¡Descarga! was about digging in the crates for the rarest salsa cuts and the funkiest Latin 60s and 70s sounds, and spinning the records (yes, good 'ol vinyl baby!), in a club that would cater to LAs indie underground music scene. Today, the venueës changed and DJs have rotated a bit, but the spirit of the night is still beating strong.

True to its roots, ¡Descarga! will present L.A./O.C. natives, Boogaloo Assassins (Los Asesinos de Boogaloo) and NYCís Chico Mann (NYC), on 2nd Saturday, May 10th at Echoplex. The first 50 people who R.S.V.P. to info@descargaclub.com before Friday, May 9th, get in for $5 all night!

Boogaloo Assassins (Los Asesinos de Boogaloo) pay homage to the classic sounds of Cuba, Puerto Rico, Spanish Harlem and beyond; with a special jones for New York City's Latin boogaloo, soul and funk of the late 60's and early 70's.

This May, Descarga guests will also get to experience a special treat with an opening set by NYC-based group, Chico Mann featuring Marquitos Garcia (Antibalas), Victor Axelrod (Ticklah, Antibalas), Vinia Mojica (Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, Mos Def, Common - to name a few), Mayteana Morales (Pimps of Joytime), DJ Obah (Recycled Funk) and Rich Panta (Very Be Careful).

¡Descarga! is a monthly Afro-Latin music gathering for the people. This event is an alternative to the commercial salsa and urban Latin music nights that have dominated the L.A. scene for years and pays homage to the African Latino connection, through classic and urban world beats. Rotating Resident DJs Sloe Poke, Mando, Bobby Soul, Loslito, and Mexican Dubwiser spin classic salsa and cumbia, merengue, Latin hip hop, reggaeton, mashups, Brazilian and Deep House grooves. The night is Executive Produced by Jennifer Cuevas and Loslito, in loving memory of DJ Dusk.

About the ¡Descarga! DJs:


Loslito is one of the Founders of Descarga, a monthly underground salsa night that he created alongside DJs Sloe Poke and the legendary DJ, DUSK* in 2002. An avid collector of classic 70s salsa records, Loslito, spins Fania classics and serves up some salsa rarities for the crowd. He also accredited for Co-Founding the legendary underground hip-hop night, The Root Down (Little Temple) and the monthly soul-funk night, 'Bounce, Rock, Skate'. In addition, he's the brainchild behind LA-based soul band, The Rebirth.


Sloe Poke is an all-around, party rockin' DJ and is one of the Founders of this east side underground salsa night. At Descarga, he's known for dropping the classic salsa sounds, some contagious Colombian cumbias, roots-reggae, reggaeton, merengue and the classic 80s Latin freestyle hits. He's the Co-Founder of Sonido Sundays and Nativo.


Bobby Soul is Mr. Boogaloo! He'll drop those rare salsa cuts, some cool cumbias and that classic boogaloo that will get ya'll dancin'! Rare Latin soul and funky cuts are his specialty. He's the voice behind O.C. based-band, Soul Hustlers, performs in a the salsa group Boogaloo Assassins, and is responsible for bringing some of the region's best groups to his Tuesday-night-spot "Behind the Orange Curtain" at Fullerton's Continental Room.


Mando holds it down with his funky Brazilian, Latin and soulful house mixes. He's one of L.A.'s best-kept secrets...but not for long! Check out his new online radio show "A Deeper Soul" on BigShowRadioLA.com


Mexican Dubwiser hails from Monterrey, Mexico and is the cumbia mashup extraordinaire. His all-digital, live mixes coalesce American hip hop and rock with Latin American cumbias that keep the crowd pumped. He is also the Co-Producer of two popular late-night parties, "Chicle" and "Dubwise Sessions".
